     At Middle Plantation, James City Co, Virginia, Minister John Weldon became the guardian of Sarah Efford after the death of Peter Efford.1
     NOTE: Very little is known about the family of Minister John Weldon. Some sources indicate that he may be the father of Samuel Weldon I.1

     On August 22, 1682 Peter Efford gave Samuel Weldon I and Sarah Weldon 50 acres in Middle Plantation, James City Co, Virginia owned by Peter Efford.. Witnesses: John Gawen, Thomas Braner, Poynes Weldon. .Could this be a different, older Poynes Weldon? Since the birth of Poynes Weldon is unknown, it is impossible to determine at this point in time. (Sep 2014.)
     Some sources say Poynes/Poines Weldon is Samuel Weldon(I)'s son; other sources say he is a brother to Samuel (I). PERSONAL OPINION: Samuel I was born in 1650 and died in 1692. Poynes died in 1746, birth unknown. Therefore he is much more likely to have been Samuel's son.4
     In 1692, Mrs. Sarah Weldon, widow of Major Samuel Weldon, brought an action in York Co, Virginia by Poynes Weldon, her attorney.5
     On December 30, 1693 at James City Co, Virginia, William Sherwood appointed Poynes Weldon as his attorney.6

     NOTE: Very little is known about the family of Minister John Weldon. Some sources indicate that he may be the father of Samuel Weldon I.2
     Samuel Weldon I married Sarah Efford, daughter of Peter Efford, before 1682. Peter Efford lived in Middle Plantation (Colonial Williamsburg). Samuel I and Sarah were also early residents of Middle Plantation. It is likely that their wedding occured there.2,4

Samuel Weldon III first settled in Northampton Co NC but later moved to Halifax. He was a member of Provincial Congress which met at Halifax in 1776 and later served as colonel in the County Militia.
Samuel III was involved in the laying out and surveying of the town of Halifax in Halifax Co NC. He kept a dwelling in Halifax as well as a plantation on the Roanoke River, near to his brother, Daniel and his family. This area became known as 'Weldon's Orchard/Landing' and later had a post office called 'Weldon Place'.
Samuel held the position of Justice of the Court of Please and Quarter Sessions for some years. He was appointed to the Safety Committee for Halifax Co on Aug 25, 1774 by the 1st Provincial Congress which met in Newbern.
