Johnston Co NC was formed on Jun 28, 1746 from Craven Co. Records for many of the very early years are not available. The earliest available tax record is 1784.
Jeremiah M Casey whose parents are unknown was born circa 1754. Unknown location.3,4,2
Dobbs Co NC was formed in 1758 from the eastern part of Johnston Co. In 1779 the western part of Dobbs Co became Wayne Co. Dobbs was dissolved in 1791 and Glasgow and Lenior Co's were formed. Most of the early records of Dobbs Co were destroyed when the Lenoir Co Court House was burned in 1878.
Micajah Casey was in the 1769 tax list for Dobbs Co, North Carolina: tax list. Micajah Casey, 1 white poll which means he was 16 or over. Jeremiah M Casey was not listed. If Jeremiah was there, it would mean that he was less than 16 years old, thus born about 1754 because census records establish birth before 1755.5
Samuel Casey , son of Jeremiah M Casey and Nancy woJeremiahMCasey, was born circa 1770 at Dobbs Co, North Carolina. Educated guess.
Jeremiah M Casey married Nancy woJeremiahMCasey circa 1770. Best guess based on estimated birth years of Jeremiah's children. In Jeremiah's will, he specifically mentions James and Lemuel as being Nancy's sons. That would mean that Zilpha is Nancy's daughter. Jeremiah mentions that all of the children (Samuel, Sarah, Nancy, Betsy, Lovy, Mary, James, Lemuel, and Zilpha) are his children and goes on to say that when Nancy dies, she can leave her estate to her children as she see fit with the exception of James and Lemuel. Does that imply that some of Jeremiah's children may not be Nancy's children or is it just a wording thing?

Sarah Casey , daughter of Jeremiah M Casey and Nancy woJeremiahMCasey, was born circa 1772 at Dobbs Co, North Carolina.6
Nancy Casey , daughter of Jeremiah M Casey and Nancy woJeremiahMCasey, was born circa 1773 at Dobbs Co, North Carolina.6
Elizabeth Casey , daughter of Jeremiah M Casey and Nancy woJeremiahMCasey, was born circa 1774 at Dobbs Co, North Carolina.
Lovey Casey , daughter of Jeremiah M Casey and Nancy woJeremiahMCasey, was born circa 1779 at Dobbs Co, North Carolina. Best guess.6
Jeremiah Casey was on the March 10, 1779 voting list for Dobbs Co, North Carolina: By this time, probably the following children had been born: Samuel, Sarah, Nancy, Elizabeth, Lovey, and Mary.
'In1779 the outlook for the sucess of the American Revolution had grown very dim. This year and the next were the darkest years for the patriots. Kinston(now in Lenoir Co), the home town of Governor Richard Caswell, had become the defacto Captital of the new state. Here the State's Board of War usually met in secret sessions... The vote in the general election required the highest patriotic conviction. If the Revolutionary cause failed, each of these voters would be marked as among the seditionist...' From the Kinston Free Press on the 200th anniversary in 1979. List of voters was compiled by Charles Holloman of Raleigh. Jeremiah Casey was on this list of voters.
Wayne Co NC was formed in Nov 21, 1779 from the western part of Dobbs Co.
On November 10, 1779 at North Carolinaland grant #196, adjoining Jernigan, Casey (could be Micajah),and Jonathan Layton.5
Mary Casey , daughter of Jeremiah M Casey and Nancy woJeremiahMCasey, was born circa 1781 at Dobbs Co, North Carolina.
Neither Jeremiah M Casey and Micajah Caseyare listed as serving in the Revolution at North Carolina.7
On September 21, 1783 at Wayne Co, North Carolina, John King sold Jeremiah M Casey 120 acres. DB 1 p259.. On the old road adjoining Silas Hollowell and Joshua Davis. The sale included houses, pastures, woods, gardens, and ale house for 10 pounds..8,5
James Casey Sr. , son of Jeremiah M Casey and Nancy woJeremiahMCasey, was born before 1784 at North Carolina. Wayne Co is the best guess.6
Circa 1784son James was born at Wayne Co, North Carolina, probably.
Jeremiah Casey was in the 1786 tax list for Wayne Co, North Carolina: one white poll which meant one white male 21 or over. Jeremiah is near a Micajah Casey. Jeremiah taxed for 70 ac and Micajah for 300 ac.9,10,5
Jeremiah Casey was in the 1788 tax list for Wayne Co, North Carolina.10
Jeremiah Casey witnessed the Etheldred Ruffin of Dobbs Co NC deed to John Skitto of Edgecombe Co NC. 117 pds for 175 A in Wayne Co below the plantation on where Jeremiah Case(y) formerly lived. on January 24, 1788 at Dobbs Co, North Carolina.5
Jeremiah M Casey was the head of household in the 1790 census for Wayne Co, North Carolina: Jeremiah Casey: 1 male > 16 (Jeremiah), 3 males < 16 (?, James, ?); 4 females (Nancy, 3 of the following Mary, Lovey, Elizabeth, Nancy, and Sarah); no slaves. There is at least one unidentified male <16 in this census. If the 2nd unidentified male is Samuel and the census is correct, then Samuel would not have been before 1775.3,5
Jeremiah M Casey's son Lemuel born about 1791 at Wayne Co, North Carolina.
Lemuel Casey , son of Jeremiah M Casey and Nancy woJeremiahMCasey, was born circa 1792 at Wayne Co, North Carolina. Based on all census records, the best guess for the date would be in the about 1792. His father Jeremiah was in Wayne Co in 1786 and 1790 and moved to Richmond Co in 1796. Therefore Lemuel's birth county was probably Wayne Co NC.
Zilpha Casey , daughter of Jeremiah M Casey and Nancy woJeremiahMCasey, was born on September 3, 1792 at Wayne Co, North Carolina.11
Jeremiah Casey was in the 1796 tax list for Capt John Barns District, Wayne Co, North Carolina: 120 1 white poll. Samuel Casey, 1 white poll, no land.
On July 29, 1796 at Wayne Co, North Carolina, Jeremiah Case sold David Newsom 120 acres. DB 5E p396.. Contained an ale house and gardens for 150 dollars..5

There is also a female age 60-70 who could have been his mother or mother-in-law. The identify of the male 20-30 is unknown. He is not thought to be a son since he didn't appear in the 1820 census. Father*Squire William Thomas Casey b. 1795, d. Aug 1869
Mother*Elizabeth Helen Loyd b. 1798, d. 9 Nov 1881
John L. Casey was Doctor. He Dr. J. L. Casey was born in AL on Jun 9, 1832.
Based on census records, he married Jane Tabitha Daniel sometimebefore 1860 since their oldest known child, Susan, was 10 in the 1870census. If they married in 1859, J. L. would have been 26 and Jane16 so their marriage couldn't have been much earlier.
At the start of the Civil War, J. L. would have been 29. If he was adoctor at that time, it appears that he likely would have served insome manner.
According to census records, Jane Tabitha was born in FL. Their olderchildren were born in AL but the youngest James William was born in1867 in FL. This would imply that after the war, the family moved toFL or they lived just on the AL/FL line.
J. L. died in 1869 and is buried in the Campbellton Baptist ChurchCemetery in Jackson Co FL. In 1870, one year after Dr. Casey's death,Jane was living in Marianna, Jackson Co FL.
