Windsor Castle is a royal residence in Berkshire. The original castle was built by William the Conqueror in the decade after the Norman conquest of England 1066. It is the favorite weekend retreat for Queen Elizabeth II
The marriage of King Henry I to Adela took place in the castle in 1121. Edward III was born at Windsor Castle. Edward III established the Order of the Garter, his version of King Arthur's Knights of the Roundtable, and Windsor Castle served as its headquarters. Many additions have been made throughout the centuries since its initial construction.
