The Pilgrim's came to Plymouth on Cape Cod in 1620 on the ship Mayflower. George Soules was one of the passengers.
In 1621 the ship Fortune brought more immigrants seeking religious freedom. Moses Simonson from Lydons Holland was on the Fortune.
Due to the small number of different families in the area, there were frequent intermarriages between families. A little over 100 years later, some members of both the Soules and Simmons families had moved to the Wilmington NC area. No documentation has been found to support this for the Simmons but there are too many similar surnames for it not to be true. Some of the Simmons families in the Wilmington area were of English origin and some of Germanic origin according to undocumented sources. A few members of the different Simmons intermarried confusing the DNA picture.
In the 1820s and 1830s, members of several different Simmons familes from the Wilmington NC area moved to Alabama.
If you are a descendant of the Soles, Soules, or Sowles family, you can probably trace your lineage back to the Mayflower.
