Benjamin Averett

M, b. circa 1794, d. before Aug 29, 1819
There were 3 different Benjamin Averetts in the Hancock Co GA area in the early 1800's.
Benjamin Averett #1 appears to have been born bef 1773 and lived and owned land in Washington and Hancock Counties between 1793 and about 1810. In 1815 he was in Baldwin Co GA and later in Autauga Co AL where he died in 1824.
Benjamin Averett #2 appears to have been born before 1790 and married Patsy Walker in Hancock Co GA in 1810 and was in the 1820 census there where his birth is given as 1775-1790. Nothing is known about him after 1820.
Benjamin Averett #3 appears to have been born about 1794 and lived in Wilkinson Co, then in Lauren Co GA. He is in the 1820 census for Lauren Co but the details are unreadable. He died about 1821 without a will.

At this time (2012), it is difficult to determine which land records of Hancock Co GA between 1804 and 1810 belong to Benjamin #1 and which to Bejamin #2. It is considered most likely that Benjamin #1 was the extensive land owner between 1800 and 1810.
______.
Benjamin Averett whose parents are unknown was born circa 1794. Possibly Hancock or Warren Co GA.

Wilkinson Co GA was formed in May 11 1803 from Creek indian lands ceded in 1802 and divided into five districts. Surveyors laid out the districts in land lots of 202 1/2 acres each. Wilkinson Co was included in the land lottery of 1805. Creek Indian lands were added in 1806 and land from Baldwin in 1807. In 1807, Wilkinson lost land to Laurens, Telfair, and Baldwin. Many historical records were destroyed in court house fires of 1828 and 1924.

Laurens Co GA was formed on Dec 10, 1807 from Wilkinson Co.

Benjamin Averett was named eligible for the 1820 land lottery on March 8, 1819 at Capt Hardys District, Laurens Co, Georgia.
An itemized inventory of the estate of Benjamin Averett was prepared byJames Barlow, Daniel Phillips, and Nathan Harrod and presented to JP Isaac Benton on August 20, 1819 at Laurens Co, Georgia.
Benjamin Averett died before August 29, 1819 at Laurens Co, Georgia. Intestate (no will.)1
Benjamin Averett appeared on the census of 1820 at Laurens Co, Georgia; census not readable. No Averett by any spelling listed in the 1820 index for Laurens Co.
In the 1820 Georgia land lottery, Capt Griffins District, Laurens Co, drawer(s): Benjamin Averett drew lot 329 sect 17 and lot 46 sec 5 in Early Co GA.2
Benjamin lived between 1820 and 1821 at Laurens Co, Georgia.

______.
NOTE: The identity of the parents of William Averett Sr, John Averett, Archibald Averett, and Benjamin Averett is unknown. Based on circumstantial evidence it is assumed that they are probably all brothers. DNA evidence indicates that John, Archibald, and Benjamin were all related. It is a possibility that their father was John Albright Averett of Richland Co, South Carolina.
Benjamin Averett , son of Unknown Averett and Wife UnkAverett, was born before 1773 an unknown place .2

______
BIRTH YEAR: He was in the militia in 1793 (>18)and on the tax list in 1794 (>=21) so his birth would have been bef 1773. If John is his father, he would have been born 1769-1773 since John arrived in GA in 1769 with a wife and no mention of children. If John is not his father, then before 1773.
BIRTH PLACE: Georgia if John Averett is his father. John and his wife came to GA in 1769 and there is no mention of children in his request for land. If John is not his father, probably South Carolina.
FATHER: probably, John Averett or William Averett Sr or they could older brothers. Archibald is probably not old enough and appears to be closer to Benjamin in age but there is some question as to Archibald's birth year or birth year range.

______.
The children of John Averett are not well documented. Based on circumstantial evidence in most cases, it is assumed that John Averett Sr had the following children: John Averett Jr., Jeremiah Averett, David Averett, Matthew Averett, Benjamin Averett, Drury Averett, and Allen Averett. AncestryDNA results have confirmed that David, Matthew, Drury, and Allen were brothers and the sons of John Averett Sr.
. Benjamin was attached to John Averett because he married Patsy Wallace who lived on the farm next to John Averett. Archibald is the only other possibility but remote.
