He later remembered that there were five families in the group and one was a Bryant family related to his mother's people.      On Mar 27, 1865, the estate of Lewis Price paid Hepsy Casey, wife of Hampton Casey, the sum of 50 dollars in confederate money. [160 B15]page 517 (Based on this entry, it is unclear to me whether Hampton is alive or dead)

In the 1866 Barbour Co census T11R25, (311 022 010), in the householdof Mrs. Hepsey Casey, there are 3 males < 10, 1 10-20, and 1 >20,females 0 <10, 2 10-20, and 2 >20, and 0 soldiers killed in the war, 1 soldier died as a result of the war, and 0 were disabled. No war records could be found for Hampton.

On Sept 4, 1866, the appraisal of the estate of Hampton Casey deceased is presented to the court. The estate consisted of 80 acres of land appraised @ $2.50 per acre for a total of $200. [160 B15] p460 Land description was not given. (in my land record research, I only have 40 acres for Hampton at this point in time. It is near Mt Andrew.
Hepsey Casey is listed in the 1870 Barbour Co census without husband Hamp. According to the 1866 census Hampton was not living and there was one male > 20. That would have to be the oldest son Thomas Asbury who would just be 20. Therefore Hampton had to be the soldier who died as a result of the war. Notice that the census makes a distinction between soldiers who were killed and those who died as a result of the war.

Evidently, William died before the 1850 census. In the 1850 BarbourCo AL census, Harriet Cox was 28. Her daughter, Amanda age 6, isliving with her along with her brother Alfred Casey age 21 NC.
In 1850, just five home places away from Harriet were several Coxfamilies. James Cox 22, Caleb Cox 50, and Sherman Cox 26. Based onages and location, there is a good possibility that Harriet's husbandWilliam was the son of Caleb Cox.
Next door to Harriet Casey and Alfred Casey were Robert Tillman andNancy (Casey) Tillman (Harriet's mother). Next door to Robert andNancy Tillman was the James Young family. Living with the James Youngfamily was Stephen Tillman 23 and Louisa Casey 10.
By 1860, Harriet had married Zacharaih Bays and appears with him inthe 1860 Pike Co AL census. Harriet is 34 and Zachariah is 28.Amanda Cox 16 AL, Harriet's daughter by William Cox, is living withthem.

Henry Casey

M, b. circa 1833, d. circa 1859
Henry Casey was Type: GENERAL NOTES.1 He There were two Henry Caseys of about the same age at the same time in1850s in Barbour Co AL. One was Henry James Casey, son of James C.'sson Lemuel, who moved to TX about 1856 to marry his first cousin,Delilah Marena Cox. Parents of the other Henry Casey have not beendetermined. It does not appear that this Henry was the son of JamesSr.

His location in the 1850 census is unknown. Between 1850 and 1854,Henry married Cloe Matilda Ketchum. Based on Matilda being born about1840, the marriage was probably 1853/54. In her father's 1854 will,Cloe is listed as the wife of Henry Casey.

On Sep 1, 1858, Henry Casey purchased 80 acres from the government, the SE4NW4 and the SW4NE4 of township 8 range 25 section 18. JamesCasey Jr. also bought 280 acres of land in the same section onNovember 1, 1858. [156], book Q, p553)

Henry must have died about 1859. In the 1860 census, Matilda wasliving with her brother, Lafayette, her mother, and sister in NewTopia.

On Mar 3, 1861, the land which Henry had purchased in 1858 was soldby James Casey Jr. to Mark W. Faulk. [156], book Q, page 553)

RESEARCH NOTE:
There is no documented proof that the Henry Casey who purchased theland is the same Henry who married Cloe Matilda Ketchum. I havereached this conclusion only by the process of elimination and themost likely scenario.
POSSIBILITY: Could this Henry Casey have been a son of Miles?

Henry Casey whose parents are unknown was born circa 1833 at Barbour Co, Alabama.
     Henry lived in 1850.

Henry Casey married Cloe Matilda Ketchum, daughter of David Ketchum and Mary Ann Walker, on circa 1853 at Barbour Co, Alabama.
Hugh Casey , son of Henry Casey and Cloe Matilda Ketchum, was born circa 1854 at Alabama.
Henry Casey died circa 1859 at Barbour Co, Alabama.
     Henry lived in 1860.
Penelope Casey , daughter of Henry Casey and Cloe Matilda Ketchum, was born in 1862 at Alabama.
On March 3, 1867 at Barbour Co, Alabama, Bartley W. Ketchum distributed the land from his father, David Ketchum's estate, T9 R24 S34 E2NE4, T9 R24 S34 NW4NE4, T9 R24 S34 SWNE, to Mary Ann Ketchum (mother), Benjamin Franklin Ketchum(brother), Cloe Matilda Casey (sister), Gilbert M.      Henry Boldin Casey Bolden Casey first appears in records at the age of 2 in the 1860Barbour Co AL census in the household of James Calvin Casey Jr. andwife Mary Bishop. According to the family bible of sister Julie AnnCasey, Bolden was May 12, 1858.
According to the 1900 census, Bolden was born Dec 1856. I have chosento use the bible record since the census records for this family varysignificantly every 10 years.
1860 Barbour Co AL census: Bolden 2 AL living with parents
1870 Barbour Co AL census: Henry 16 living with James and Mary Casey.
Bolden Casey does not appear at age 12 in the James Jr. household inthe 1870 Barbour Co AL census. This has led to some confusion as tothe correct parents of Bolden since he named a son Alfred Joe(Tannon). There was also an Alfred Casey in Barbour Co AL about thesame time. He had a son named Alfred who appears in the 1870 MonroeCo AL census at age 10 with his mother (Alfred died in the war) butnot in the 1860 census when his parents lived in Barbour Co AL.
However there is a lot of inconsistancy in the many census records ofthe James Calvin Casey Jr. household. Probably several of the censusrecords were contributed by neighbors. In my opinion, for thisparticular family, it is not an overriding factor that a child wasmissing from one census.
1880 Boldin married Liddy Jane Thomas about 1880 prior to the censusand they had 10 children.
