Edgecombe Co NC was formed in 1741 from part of Bertie Co. Tarboro, the eventual county seat, was not chartered until 1760. Nancy Patience Alford daughter of John Alford and Nancy Elizabeth Gibb was born in 1765 in Virginia.1

 

She married John Henry Stokes son of David Stokes and Sarah Montford in 1783 in Edgecombe, Edgecombe Co, NC.1,2

 

In the state census in Capt Vincents Dist, Northampton Co, NC btw 1784 and 1787. John Stokes: males 1 21-60, 3 <21 or >60; females 3.3

Nancy was the wife of John Henry Stokes in the census in 1790 in St Thomas Par, Cheraws Dist, SC. 1/6 females.4

She was the wife of John Henry Stokes in the census in 1800 in Darlington Co, Cheraws Dist, SC. female 26-44.5

 

She died in 1830 in Barbour Co, AL at 65 years of age.1

 

 

John Henry Stokes was the son of David Stokes (1707-1794) and Sarah Montford (1717-1800). He and Nancy Patience Alford had the following children:
