Samuel Julius Casey Sr.1,2,3 (known as Sam) son of Alto Lee Casey and Dera Mae Cox was born on Mar 1, 1911 in Geneva Co, AL on the family farm.1,2,4 He was a son of Alto Lee Casey in the census in 1920 in Slocomb, Geneva Co, AL.1 In 1928 he. graduated from Slocomb High where he played end on Slocomb's first football team. He worked at the local printer's and had to wear overall's due to getting ink on his regular clothes. In 1929 Sam. attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) for two years where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity and roomed with Ralph 'Shug' Jordan. Sam appeared on the census. in 1930 in Slocomb, Geneva Co, AL. 19 single, AL. Not listed with parents.5 C. 1930 Sam. worked on the family farm for a year before he decided to go back to college. In 1933 Sam. taught at Tate Jr High in Geneva Co AL which is 5 miles south of Slocomb. He also coached basketball. In 1934, he was a school teacher at Black in Geneva Co. He was also principal and coached basketball.
Samuel Julius Casey age 23 married Catherine Ballard age 20 daughter of Herbert Weldon Ballard and Johnnie Mae Culver on May 31, 1934 in Troy, Pike Co, AL. They went on their honeymoon to Dead Lakes FL with another couple because they did not have a car.

In 1937 Samuel Julius Casey moved. to Columbia AL where Sam was the school principal.They moved to Pine Hill AL in 1939 where he was the principal and basketball coach. All three sons were born while the family lived in Pine Hill. Samuel lived in Columbia, Houston Co, AL btw 1938 and 1940. Samuel lived in Pine Hill, Wilcox Co, AL btw 1940 and 1946. In 1949, he moved to Elba Al where he was elementary school principal and city school superintendent for 12 years. He was a member of the Elba Lions Club and the Elba Methodist Church. Samuel lived in Elba, Coffee Co, AL btw 1948 and 1961.

He particularly enjoyed teaching the younger generations. In 1961, he retired from schools and moved to Dothan AL where he built a sawmill and was involved in the lumber business until his death. He was active in the First Methodist Church and the Dothan RotaryClub.
Sam died on Aug 21, 1993 in Dead Lakes, Gulf Co, FL at 82 years of age. in a boating accident.2,4 Sam was buried in Memory Hill Cemetery, Dothan, Houston Co, Alabama. Find a Grave Memorial # is 79652252.
