Vesta was the second child and only daughter of Alto Casey and DeraCox. She was born on 14 Mar 1909 on the family farm in Geneva Co AL. In the 1920 census, Vesta is listed as age 10, having attended schoolwithin the last year and being able to read and write. Aftergraduation from Slocomb HS, she attended Montevallo (Alabama College). When back in Slocomb during school breaks, she met J T Boyette andlove won out over education. She and JT were married in Slocomb on 24Jul 1929. 1930 In 1945 she continued her education at Troy State and graduated inelementary education. Having lived through the depression, Vesta had a reputation as asaver. She would take a slice of pineapple and divide it in half tomake two sandwiches, tear a napkin in half and issue half napkins.Cake slices were always cut in half. She and JT moved to Panama City FL in 1946. She was a former schoolteacher at Cherry Street School. Vesta was very active in the civiclife of the city. Among her many activities were a member of the PCWomen's Club, PC Garden Club, Master Flower Show Judge, President ofthe Chrysanthemum Circle, and Horticulture and Flower Show Judge. Shewas one of the founders of the PC Azalea Trail Club and served as itsfirst Chairman. She was also Chairman of the Flower Committee of theFirst Baptist Church where she was a member, and a member of the JuneGrubbs Sunday School Class and a loyal member of Delta Kappa Gamma.Vesta is remembered as a teacher of love and compassion for those shetaught. She served two tenures as President of the PC Garden Cloub and workedclosely with the Bay County Fair Association in the annualpresentation of the Fall Flower Show. She died in 1992 at the age of82.
