Wilkinson Co GA was formed in May 11 1803 from Creek indian lands ceded in 1802 and divided into five districts. Surveyors laid out the districts in land lots of 202 1/2 acres each. Wilkinson Co was included in the land lottery of 1805. Creek Indian lands were added in 1806 and land from Baldwin in 1807. In 1807, Wilkinson lost land to Laurens, Telfair, and Baldwin. Many historical records were destroyed in court house fires of 1828 and 1924.6
