The children of John Averett, Jeremiah Averett and Benjamin Averett are not well documented. Based on circumstantial evidence in most cases, it is assumed that he may have had the following children: David Averett, Matthew Averett, Drury Averett and Allen Averett. add text

 

Mary Averett daughter of John Averett and Unknown was born c. 1778 in Georgia, probably. Although 1850 census says SC.1

There is no known written documentation that suggests that John Averett had daughters. However based on limited information and a significant number of triangulated DNA matches between descendants of Mary, the wife of Robert Stripling, and descendants of John Averett's other children, it is considered likely that Mary was a daughter of John Averett and an unknown wife.

 

Robert Stripling married Mary Averett daughter of John Averett and Unknown c. 1796 in Hancock Co, GA. probably.. Marriages in Georgia were not required to be registered until about 18072

 

Jones Co GA was formed in Dec 10,1807 from Baldwin Co. Land was added in 1810 from Putnam Co.

On Jun 4, 1811 in Hancock Co, GA at the estate sale of John Averett in Hancock Co, GA, Mary (Polly) Stripling purchased 1 pot 56 1/2 c, 1 pale 25c, 1 gun 18 3/4 c, 1 sow & pigs $1.25, and paid for rent of land $2.25. Purchasers included Archibald Averett, Henry Averett, Matthew Averett, David Averett, Jeremiah Averett, Burrell Rachels, Benjamin Averett and Mary Averett Administrators: Matthew Averett and David Averett.

 

Her husband, Robert Stripling, died in 1812 in Jones Co, GA.2

In 1816 Mary Stripling owned no slaves and 101 1/4 acres in the tax list for Capt Wallers Dist #359, Jones Co, GA Adj. Striplin, grantee Wicker.3

Mary Stripling was the Head of Household in the census in 1820 in Capt Rossers District, Jones Co, Georgia. Mary Stripling: males 1<10 (?), 2 10-15 (David, James); females 1 10-15 (Tabitha) , 1 16-25 (Elizabeth), 1 26-45 (1775 - 1794) (Mary); no slaves. Next to Moses Striplin, James Hammack, and near Williams.4

In the Georgia Land Lottery in 1821 in Jones Co drawer(s): Mary Stripling widow; Robert Stripling orphans.5

Carroll Co GA was formed on Dec 14, 18126 from Creek Indian lands.

Mary Stripling was the Head of Household in the census in 1830 in Carroll Co, GA. Mary Stripling : males 1 15-19 (1811-1815), 1 20-29 (1801-1810); females 1 15-19 (1811-1815), 1 20-29 (1801-1810), 1 50-59 (1771-1780). David Stripling 20-29 on same census page.6

Mary Stripling was not located iin the census in 1840 census in GMD 649, Carroll Co, GA.7

Mary Stripling appeared in the agricultural census in 1850 in Eleventh Division, Carroll Co, Georgia. no land, 2 milch cows, 5 other cows, 1 swine, $45 value of livestock, 10 bushels of Indian corn, plus some other data which is unreadable.8

Mary Stripling was the Head of Household in the census in 1850 in Carroll Co, GA. Mary Stripling 72 SC can't read/write, Tabitha 39 GA can't read/write, Mary J 17 GA.1
