The name Beauchamp originated from the castle of Beauchamp in the Contentin part of the Barony of St. Denis le Geste, Normandy. The family was a branch of the Barons of St. Denis. About 1066, Hugh de Beauchamp, Lord of Abergavenny, and [WO]. came into England with William the Conqueror, by whom he had gift of 43 lordships, the greatest part of which were in Bedfordshire.
