[m] [wm]. Henry Averett, was born before 1782.1
The 1805 Georgia Land Lottery was the first experiment of its kind in the United States. The legislative act of 1803 outlined the creation of 3 new counties, five districts in Baldwin and Wilkinson counties with each lot containing 202 1/2 acres and 3 districts in Wayne Co with each lot containing 490 acres. All fractions were held out to be sold at public auction in 1806. Registration fee was 12.5 cents per draw.
Eligible participants had to be white, 21 years or older, a US citizen, and a resident or Georgia since May 1802. The county listed is where they lived in 1803 when they registered. They may have been living in another location in 1805. Males without dependent children were entitled to 1 draw. Males with a wife and dependent children were entitled to two draws but may have only registered for 1 draw. Widowed females with dependent children were entitled to 2 draws but may have only registered for 1 draw. Orphans with both parents deceased or with a deceased father and a remarried mother were entitled to 2 draws but may have only registered for 1 draw. Orphans were not always designated as such on the list.1
On 28 October 1803 in Hancock Co, GAG+, Henry Averett. 250 acres of land on Williamson's Swamp, the property of Henry Averett, sold to satisfy Baldwin Fluker.2
On 3 January 1804 in GeorgiaG, Henry Averett. issued a passport to travel to the Creek nation.3

. Henry Averett drew land as a Revolutionary Soldier according to "Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers in GA, Vol III". However none of the many other references which list land grants list a Henry Averett as receiving land in Georgia. in 1784 in Washington Co, GAG+.2
Henry Averett died after 1784.1
In the Land Lottery in GeorgiaG, in 1805,
Washington: Henry Averett B (not married). Possibly the Henry Averett who received a RW land grant for his service. Drawers were.

Biography

Martha A Merritt was also known as Martha Averett. She was also known as Martha Everet. She was also known as Martha Everett.
. There is very little documentation as to the names of the children of Martha Averett. However since she was the only Averett of adult age in the 1830's and 1840's, it is very likely that Henry Averett, Nancy Averett, and Solmon Averett are some of her children.
Martha A Merritt was born in 1790 in South CarolinaG. What is her relationship to Dorcas Elinder Merritt who married her probable son Solomon in Crawford Co GA and her relationship to William Riley Merritt who had several children who married Averetts in Crawford Co GA.1

foHenry Averett married Martha A Merritt before 1811. No Georgia marriage record has been found for any Averett/Everett by any spelling who married a Martha near this time frame. Married records were not required to be recorded in Georgia until about 1806.


Houston Co GA was formed in May 15, 1821 from former Creek Indian lands. Houston Co was included in the 1821 land lottery with 16 districts and lots of 202 1/2 acres.
. Mary Evritt (widow) of Screven Co was the only Averett/Everett by any spelling to draw land in Houston Co in the 1821 land lottery. She drew lot 101 in section 7. It is not known if she received a land grant.
Crawford Co GA was formed on Dec 9,1822 from Houston Co. Land was added on Dec 26, 1827 from Talbot Co.
Talbot Co GA was formed on Dec 14, 1827 from Muscogee and Troup Counties. Land was added from Marion Co on Dec 20, 1832, Muscogee on Dec24, 1847, and from Marion on Dec 27, 1847. Land was lost to Crawford Co in 1827 and to Taylor Co in 1852.

Martha A Merritt was the Head of Household in the census in 1830 in Crawford Co, GAG. Martha Everett: males 1<5 (Son4), 1 5-9 (Solomon ?), 1 10-14 (Son2), 1 15-19 (Henry); females 1 5-9 (?), 1 10-14 (?), 1 30-39 (Martha); no slaves. There was also a James A Everett in Houston Co with a household of 7 including 26 slaves.2

Martha A Merritt was the Head of Household in the census in 1840 in Crawford Co, GAG. Martha Everett: females 2 5-10 (?, ?), 1 30-40 (Martha 1800-1810). Martha was listed as the head of the household in the 1830 census and again in 1840. Who is the father of the 2 females ages 5-10? Was Martha their mother?3

Martha A Merritt was the Head of Household in the census in 1850 in Division 20, Crawford Co, GeorgiaG. Martha Everet 40 GA, G A Everet 16 GA.
On 15 November 1853 in Crawford Co, GAG. the Inferior Court ordered that the sum of $15 be appropriated out of the poor school fund for the relief of [p], an indeigent poor female.4
On 6 February 1854 in Crawford Co, GAG. the Inferior Court ordered that Elijah H Hicks be appointed overseer of the poor for the 3rd Diatrict and that an order be drawn in his favor for the benefit of [p], an indegent poor person for $25.4

Martha A Merritt was the Head of Household in the census in 1860 in Sowell, Crawford Co, GeorgiaG. Martha Averett 70 SC widow & pauper can't read/write, Georgia A 28 GA can't r/w, Andrew 3 GA , Wm C 1 GA.1

FoHenry Averett married Martha A Merritt before 1811. No Georgia marriage record has been found for any Averett/Everett by any spelling who married a Martha near this time frame. Married records were not required to be recorded in Georgia until about 1806.


FoHenry Averett died after 1827 in Crawford Co, GAG. The father of Henry Averett died after 1827 when his last son was born and before the 1830 census when his wife is listed as head of the household.1
