Biography

Jacob Johnston. He first appears in the records of Edgecombe Co in 1757 when he bought640 acres from Francis Bettis on a branch of Town Creek. According towritten family tradition in 1812, he is said to have come fromSouthampton Co VA. Possibly , he is the Jacob Johnson who with hiswife Mary sold 200 acres to Henry Johnson in Southampton Co, 11 Aug1757. Isle of Wight records, the county from which Southampton wasformed, shows that Jacob Johnston acquired this tract from ThomasGale, 18 Oct 1736. There is no record to him prior to this. His wifecould have been Mary Waller. Several of his sons were grown when hemoved to Edgecombe Co. The will of Jacob Johnston was probatedinEdgecombe Co in 1782. His widow Mary died about 1792, in which yearthe final division of the estate of Jacob Johnston was made. He, was born about 1700.
Jacob Johnston died on 11 December 1781.
