Allen Jones trade in mercantile business in Irwinton in 1825.MemberRamah Church 1809-1819. Elbert Co in 1805, Henry Co later. Buriednext to infants near large brown rock.
Allen JONES was a reverend who moved frequently. His first wife,Elizabeth Bailey, died when Kilby was either born or shortlythereafter. Allen married Catherine SMITH, 5 Feb. 1818, in ColumbiaCounty, GA, and Kilby appears to have always considered her to be hismother.
Allen Jones was married, apparently, at least twice, perhaps moretimes. He is listed in the 1860 census of Jackson Co, FL and the 1870census of Henry Co, AL with a wife named Elizabeth. Given the ages ofhis children there must have been at least one wife to precedeher.Maddox, in his collection on Wilkinson Co, states that Allen wasmarried to a Catherine Smith. There is a marriage record of an AllenJones and Catherine Smith in Columbia Co, GA forFeb 3, 1818. If thisis the Allen Jones of my records, this marriage date would be beforethe birth of his eldest children, so Allen was likely married toanother woman before Catherine. According to Miriam Brown, anotherdescendant of Allen Jones, he had a mercantile business in Irwinton,GA. That's about 20 miles south of Milledgeville. His daughter,Elizabeth Ann, stated, when filing for her husband's Confederatepension in Florida, that she had married Jones Pittman nearMilledgeville. Allen left that area before 1850. An Allen H Jones wasfiling patents for lands in Henry, later Houston, Co, AL and JacksonCo, FL from January to June, 1860. I'm still trying to determineif thelands were adjacent properties at the AL/FL border. In 1880, his agewas reported in the census as 95. According to Miriam's records, hedied on Nov 5, 1880. He's supposedly buried in an unmarked grave neara large brownrock at Cottonwood Cemetery in Cottonwood, AL. He, was born in 1795 in North CarolinaG.2
About 1825 Allen H Jones was a member of the Ramah Primitive Baptist Church in Wilkinson Co, GAG. He eventually became a reverend and moved frequently.3
Allen lived in Jackson Co, FLG, in 1860.1
Allen lived in Prect 2, Henry Co, ALG, in 1870.2
