John Randolph Brown, Sr, was general store owner. He. John R. Brown was born on Nov 10, 1874 and named after his uncle.

According to Fred Williamson's History of Northeast Louisiana, hepassed the period of his childhood and early youth on the home farm ofhis father, and his educational advantages were those of the localpublic schools. However according to the same author's History ofLouisiana, John R. Brown took advantage of Beech Creek Academy, whichwas located southwest of Olla, in Winn Parish. He married when he wasa youth of nineteen years, and thereafter he developed and improvedthe farm land which he purchased from his father.
In 1897 he became associated with his brother, Final Brown, inconducting a general store near Kelly.
He continued his active association with the farm industry until 1919when he moved to Columbia from Kelly and opened Columbia Wholesale andRetail Grocery.
He was reared in the faith of the Baptist Church, of which his parentswere zealous members, and in 1924 was serving as clerk of the KellyBaptist Church, both he and his wife being active members and workersin this church. At the same time he was affiliated with the Knightsof Pythias Lodge at Clarks. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm tomorrow at Salem Church with the Rev Edmond Creel of Birmingham officiating. Holman Funeral Home will direct burial in Salem Cemetery.
