Samuel Weldon, I, married Sarah Efford, daughter of Peter Efford, before 1682. Peter Efford lived in Middle Plantation (Colonial Williamsburg). Samuel I and Sarah were also early residents of Middle Plantation. It is likely that their wedding occured there.2,4

His first marriage was to Mary Sims. [074] He moved from PA to WilkesCo GA.
His first years were spent mainly on his horse helping the Wilkes (CoGA) Dragoons subdue Tories and British.
At the battle of Ninety-Six SC, Lindsay had his horse shot from underhim. He fell and while he was helpless on the ground one ofTarleton's Raiders drew his sword and cut off his right hand. [087]
John Lindsay has lost his right hand, the bones of his right leg areshattered, and the leg shortened, and otherwise much disabled bywounds received at the Battle of Long Cane on Dec 1780. [075]
Major John Lindsey was a part of the American forces at King'sMountain GA on 2 Mar 1781. [067]
He served as a Major in Elijah Clarke's Militia during theRevolutionary War. John Lindsey fought in the Battle of Kettle Creekwhich freed Georgia from the Tories [007]

Biography

Nathan Andrew Culver, Sr., was also known as Nathan Andrew Culver.1 He was also known as Nathan Culver. He. Nathan Culver was born in Somerset Co MD about 1746. He married Nancy Powders about 1769 and had twelve children, all of whom except four were deceased before the settlement of his wife's Nancy, estate in1838.
On 9 Oct 1760, he purchased land from Jonathan Dolba of Worcester Co MD in consideration of 263 pounds. On 22 Oct 1760 he sold the sameland to Richard Crockett. On 18 Feb, Nathan and his wife, Mary, sold to David Wilson, 100 acres of land on Barren Creek Branch.
He served during the Revolutionary War. He was the only one of the brothers who mentioned that he served. Abt 1782 he married Nancy Powders.(There is disagreement on this, other sources list her as Nancy Ellis, daughter of Levin Ellis) She was the sister of Ebe who married his brother John. They had twelve children, all of whom except four were deceased before the settlement of his wife's , Nancy,estate in 1838.
On 10 Sep 1787, Nathan Sr of Somerset Co MD sold to Nancy Nelms land called 'Peace and Quietness' which was his dwelling place. He signed his name.
Sometime around 1790, he along with his brothers George and Salathael and first cousin, Joshua J (oseph ?) moved to Hancock Co GA. He does not appear in the1790 census in Somerset Co MD. However his son,Nathan Jr, stated in the census of 1850 and 1860 Coosa Co AL that he was born in MD in 1790.

Nathan had two draws as a Revolutionary Soldier in the Land Lottery of1806 in Hancock Co GA. In the tax records of 1812 for Wilkes Co GA,Nathan paid taxes on two tracts of land in Wilkes Co GA of 202 1/2acres each, presumably the two tracts he drew in the lottery of 1806,and on 134 acres in Hancock Co.

The 1805 Georgia Land Lottery was the first experiment of its kind in the United States. The legislative act of 1803 outlined the creation of 3 new counties, five districts in Baldwin and Wilkinson counties with each lot containing 202 1/2 acres and 3 districts in Wayne Co with each lot containing 490 acres. All fractions were held out to be sold at public auction in 1806. Registration fee was 12.5 cents per draw. The grant fee was $8.10 per 202 1/2 ac lot or $19.60 for a 490 ac lot.
Eligible participants had to be white, 21 years or older, a US citizen, and a resident or Georgia since May 1802. The county listed is where they lived in 1803 when they registered. They may have been living in another location in 1805. Single males without dependent children were entitled to 1 draw. Males with a wife and/or dependent children were entitled to two draws but may have only registered for 1 draw. Widowed females with dependent children were entitled to 2 draws but may have only registered for 1 draw. Orphans with both parents deceased or with a deceased father and a remarried mother were entitled to 2 draws but may have only registered for 1 draw.
