Hardy Callaway Culver died on 11 September 1865 in Hancock Co, GAG+.2 He. Hardy Callaway Culver, born on 29 Dec 1800 in Hancock Co GA, was the son of George Culver Jr. and Elizabeth Ellis. His middle name probably comes from his grandmother, Martha Calloway, the wife of grandfather, George Culver Sr.
On 1 Dec 1825, he married Nancy Latimer in Hancock Co, a member of a prominent county family. They had eleven children. About 1835, Hardy who was a sturdy, energetic farmer, moved to a small town about fivem iles from Sparta, called Mount Carmel. It boosted of only a few houses but the soil seemed well-adapted to his chosen pursuit of farming, so he made extensive investments in land. Later he built a large and beautiful colonial house.
Hardy was man of wonderful energy with fine business judgment, and was held in high esteem by his fellow citizens. He was foremost in every enterprise which promised benefit to the community of which he was a part. He gave liberally to schools; and as a Methodist was untiring in his efforts for the advancement of that denomination, being an intimate friend of and worker with Bishop Pierce. In politics he was a Whig; and although not caring for political life he was persuaded, because of his fitness and ability to represent his county in the State Legislature a number of years - often gaining the support of democrats because of his just and conservative views.
Hardy erected a commodious school building, and secured the services of Thomas F. Pierce, a recent graduate of Emory College. The name of Mount Carmel was changed to Culverton in honor of the contributions tothe community by Hardy Culver.

REFERENCE: (118)
Some articles mention that he married Anna Latimer or Ann Latimer.Others say Nancy Latimer. Hancock Co GA marriage records list her name as Nancy. Maybe her name was Nancy Ann and she went by Ann.
