.

Lee Co GA was formed on Jun 9, 1825 from Creek Indian lands.

William Averett married Susan about 1828.

.

Randolph Co GA was formed on Dec 20, 1828 from Lee Co.

. The surname for William's wife Susan and their marriage date and location are unknown. Williams's father Matthew Averett was living in Monroe Co AL until the mid or late 1820s. In 1830 William and Susan, age 15-20,and a son and daughter both <5 years old were living in Randolph Co, GA. Randolph Co GA was established on Dec 20, 1828 from Lee Co GA. Current available marriage records start for 1835. A courthouse fire destroyed most Lee Co records in 1858. Based on Susan's age, 15-20, in 1830 and the fact they had 2 children It suggests that they were married soon after 1825. They could have been married in Monroe Co AL, Lee Co GA, or Randolph Co GA. We will probably never know. Maybe dna segment analysis will help to determine Susan's surname.

Phillip McCarty.

Those who knew Philip remember him as a stern, just man, a strict disciplinarian. He was well educated and gave all of his children better than an average education of that day. Though he was considered a well-to-do farmer, he still believed that work was good for his children and kept them busy. He would not tolerate the desecration of the Sabbath and never allowed any of his family or slaves to work on Sunday.

Philip was a small man with 'gander blue' eyes and fiery red hair and a fiery temper. Though Philip had several sons that drank rather heavily, he confined his drinking to a 'hot toddy' each morning. His bottle stood on the mantle in his room always.

Phillip McCarty signed a will on 7 June 1879 in Dale Co AlabamaG. Phillip willed everything he owned to his wife Mary with the exception of his real estate lying in Sections Eight and Seventeen, Township Four, Range Twenty-Three which he left to his youngest son James M McCarty. James was instructed to take care and support Mary and Amanda, the widow of Thomas R McCarty, and his grandson Philip, son of Thomas. After Mary's death, James was to sell the remainder of his property and divide the proceeds equally amoung all of his lawful heirs.

His will shows that he owned more than 2,000 acres, much of which is part of Fort Rucker today. This includes the Averett-McCarty cemetery.

Phillip McCarty died on 16 June 1879 at 87 years of age. He was buried in Averett Cem, Ft Rucker, Dale Co, ALG. Find A Grave Memorial # is. 9713381.9
