The share of property which was to go to sons [R:00010] and [R:00011], was given instead to their wives with the stipulation that it would belong to the wives for as long as they were married to Bethel and Eli; then it would pass to their heirs who were also bodily heirs of Bethel and Eli. No explanation was made for this action, but they must have felt strongly about it because in each case, they appointed another member of the family to act as trustee to see that their wishes were honored.

John Ballard, was born in 1652 in York Co, VAG.1,2 He. Intrepid Ballards says that this John Ballard never married.

The Compendium of American Genealogy (Ballard NEWS, Feb 96 p 277) says that this John Ballard settled in Chowan District of Caroline Co between 1694 and 1700 and married Mary Williams of Surry Co VA.
I have listed their children.

The Ballards of North Carolina (p4) agrees with this version as to marriage and children. However the source is unknown and could be the one above. It says that John was born in England. The Ballard NEWS,Feb 95 p119, also suggests that this John Ballard came from England.

In 1673 John Ballard receives a royal land patent in Nansemond Co VA for 300 acres. He names 'his owne person & Besheba (Pashaba) his wife, John and Joseph his sons.

John Ballard married Besheba Elizabeth woJohnBallard before 1673.

John Ballard died in 1694 in Nansemond Co, VAG+.1
