James Butler, 4th Earl of Ormonde, was also known as The White Earl Butler.1 He was also known as 4th Earl of Ormonde James Butler.1 He. James Butler, 4th Earl of Ormonde (1392 - 22 August 1452 ) was the sonof James Butler, 3rd Earl of Ormonde and Anne Welles.
He was called The White Earl and esteemed for his learning.
He prevailed upon Henry V to create a King of Arms in Ireland , by thetitle of Ireland King of Arms (altered by Edward VI to Ulster King ofArms), and he gave lands forever to the Heralds’ s College, London .
He was appointed Deputy of Ireland in 1405, and Lord Lieutenant in1420, 1425, and 1442.
In 1440 he had a grant of the temporalities of the See of Cashel forten years after the death of the Archbishop , Richard O'Hedian.
He married firstly with Joan Beauchamp, daughter of William Beauchamp,1st Baron Bergavenny and had issue:

John Butler, 6th Earl of Ormonde (1449-1478), unmarried.

William owned about 8,000 acres of land in Isle of Wight Co, some ofwhich he purchased but most of which was grants for bring colonistsfrom England to Virginia. On Oct 20, 1661, he received 550 acres fortransporting 11persons to VA. On July 12, 1655, he received 3,350acres (including the 550 above) for transporting 56 other persons.For supporting an additional 67 persons to Isle of Wight Co on Apr 26,1684 he received another 3,350 acres.

His will was probated on Feb 25, 1717, in Isle of Wight Co VA. He, son of John Boddie and Mary woJohnBODDIE, was born about 1630. William Boddie was baptized in 1633 in Essex, EnglandG+.
