Afterattending summer school for several years at Alabama College inMontevallo, Huntingdon College in Montgomery and Alabama PolytechnicInstitute (Auburn University), Lillian received her BA degree fromAlabama College on 25 Aug 1943. During her teaching career duringthe depression years, Lillian and Maud had no eletricity, telephones,or running water even in town. Much of their meat and vegatables weresupplied by the family farm. One year in the 1930s, the teachers werenot paid as Alabama did not have the money. Teachers existed by beinggiven credit at the stores and from produce, meats, dairy products,etc., brought in by the students who lived on the farm. Lilliantaught school at several locations in AL: near Wetumpka, Seale,Georgiana, Coffee Springs, Ashford, Cotonwood, Westover, Camp Branch(near Saginaw), Petrey and Luverne. She, daughter of John Eugene Caldwell and Mary Catherine Gaylor, was born on 28 February 1890 in Autauga Co, ALG.
