Biography

SoDavid Ketchum. The father of the 3 Ketchum boys is unknown. Due their closenessthroughout the years with the sons of David Ketcham Sr., thereprobably was some type of kinship but it is unknown. Was he the sonof David Ketchum Sr. or a brother? Based on the ages of the children,he would have been a much younger brother or an older son. Beinga son is not supported by the 1830 Pike Co census since he only hadone young son which would be Bartley. It is possible that this personwas living in the David Ketcham household in the 1833 Barbour Cocensus but not in the 1840 census. However Bartley is not to be foundin the 1840 census either. I have listed this Ketchum as a son toDavid mainly for the purpose of being able to print Ketchum history. He, son of David Ketchum and Mary Ann Walker, was born about 1831 in AlabamaG+. Pike Co probably.1
SoDavid Ketchum was a resident in the household of David Ketchum in the state census in 1833 in Barbour Co, ALG+.2

Biography

Cloe Matilda Ketchum was also known as Cloe Matilda Casey. She. Cloe Matilda Ketchum first appears in the 1850 Barbour Co AL censusat age 10 where she is living with her parents David and Mary L.Ketchum and listed as Matilda C. Her sister Ann E., age 25, is also living with the family as is her brother LaFayette age 12 and otherfamily members.
Her brother, Bartley W. Ketchum, 26, has already married Sarah Casey, age 28, daughter of James Calvin Casey Sr. The two families are notliving close together.
In her father's 1854 Barbour Co AL will, she is listed as CloeMatilda, wife of Henry Casey. Therefore she married Henry Caseybetween the 1850 census and Nov 1854. Her sister Ann Eliza is notmarried. One Henry Casey was the son of Lemuel, grandson of James Sr. He is of the right age but left for Texas and married his cousinDelilah Cox by 1857. Another Henry Casey bought land from thegovernment in 1858. This could be the husband of Delilah. This Henrywas possibly the son of Lemuel Casy, brother of James Sr.
Next door to the Bartley W. Ketchum family in the 1860 Barbour Co ALcensus, are other members of Bartley's family living together.Lafayette Ketchum 23 is listed as head of the household. His motherMargaret 55 is stillliving. Also listed are Annie Casey 37, MatildaCasey 20, Benjamin F. Casey 18, and Huey Casey 4.
There is at least one known mistake with the above 1860 census record. Benjamin F. Casey is actually Benjamin F. Ketchum who later marriedNancy E. K. Phillips. This is the only reference that Annie (AnnEliza) Ketchum married a Casey. If she did, it was between herfather's Nov 1854 will and 1860. There is no record of such amarriage in the Barbour Co marriage records.
It is assumed that Huey is the son of Henry Casey and Cloe MatildaKetchum since he is listed as 18 and living with Matilda Casey in the1870 Barbour Co AL census in Louisville. However also living withMatilda Casey is Penelope Casey age 8.
This presents a puzzle. Who is Penelope? If she is the daughter ofMatilda, who is the father? No further record of Matilda Casey hasbeen found beyond the 1870 census. She, daughter of David Ketchum and Mary Ann Walker, was born in 1840 in Barbour Co, ALG+.1,2,33

Cloe Matilda Ketchum married Henry Casey about 1853 in Barbour Co, ALG+.3

On 3 March 1867 in Barbour Co, ALG+. [p1] distributed the land from his father, [p2s] estate, T9 R24 S34 E2NE4, T9 R24 S34 NW4NE4, T9 R24 S34 SWNE, to [R:00004] (mother), [R:00005](brother), [R:00006] (sister), [R:00007] (brother), and [R:00008] brother in law.
