John Stansell, III, was also known as John Stansell. He was also known as John Stansill. He. In 1750, John Jr willed his land to John III and Godfrey, his twosons. The land are located in what was then Tyrell Co, now Martin,about 4 miles east of Williamston on the Morratock River, Devil's Gut,and Smithwick's (now Sweet Water) creek.
In 1755 John III and Godfrey conveyed all their land to Reuben Eason.This is the last record of the Stancills in the area east ofWilliamston, and it is perfectly clear that they left and went stillfurther inland to the Conetoe Creek where their uncle William hadpreviously moved.
In 1759, Godfrey Stancill received 100 acres by deed from Archdeaconon Conetoe Creek. The deed was witnessed by John Stancill. This wasone year before Pitt was taken from Beaufort County and this deed istherefore recorded in Beaufort County in Book 3, page 427.
In 1760, John III received 2 tracts on Conetoe Creek from John Bensonwhich is recorded in Pitt Co Registry Book A, p 6&8.
In 1767 Archdeacon sold another tract to Godfrey on Conetoe Creek. Wenow see that John III and Godfrey are firmly established in ConetoeCreek in Pitt County. He, son of John Stansell, Jr., and Sarah Godfrey Smithwick, was born before 1730.

There is evidence his first wife was named Dorcas. It is presumed she was Dorcas Nobles. The date of their marriage is not known, but she apparently died in the early 1770s. Godfrey married 2, Sarah Williams, daughter of Capt William and Mary (Blount) Williams. Sarah Williams was also a sister of Major Willoughby Williams, 10th Regt, NC Continental Line. Godfrey and Sarah Williams were probably married inthe mid-1770s. They settled in Pitt Co NC. He, son of John Stansell, Jr., and Sarah Godfrey Smithwick, was born in 1732.
On 22 August 1750 Godfrey Stansell was listed as an heir in the will of John Stanshall in Tyrrell Co, NCG+. John and Godfrey were left all lands and slaves after their mother's decease.1,2,3

Mary Stansell was also known as Mary Bentley. She. A thorough search of records of the Bentleys of Tyrrell and Bertie Co's fail to disclose a spouse named Mary or Polly. It is possible she married a son of William Bentley of Tyrrell Co, but there are no records to substantiate this theory. She, daughter of John Stansell, Jr., and Sarah Godfrey Smithwick, was born before 1730.

Mary Stansell married ? Bentley before 1750.

On 22 August 1750 Mary Stansell was listed as an heir in the will of John Stanshall in Tyrrell Co, NCG+. Mary had already received her portion of the estate.1,2,3
