Biography

Nancy Casey was also known as Nancy Chitty. She. Charles Chitty has not been located in the 1800 census.
However, in the 1810 Stokes Co NC census, Charles and wife have afemale 10-16 living with them which would tend to indicate thatCharles Chitty was married before 1800. This could explain why Nancywas not in Jeremiah's 1800 household.

RESEARCH NOTE:
1810 one male <10
1820 one male 16-18, one male 16-26, probably one male
1830 Jackson Co AL: Henry Chitty born 1790-1800, includes a femaleage 60-70 (1760-1770). What is the relation? Son?
1830 Jackson Co AL: Jesse Chitty born 1790-1800. What is therelation? Son? She, daughter of Jeremiah M Casey and Nancy, was born about 1773 in Dobbs Co, NCG+.2
[S] was possibly listed in the household of Jeremiah M Casey in the in 1790 census in Wayne Co, NCG. Jeremiah Casey: 1 male > 16 (Jeremiah), 3 males < 16 (?, James, ?); 4 females (Nancy, 3 of the following Mary, Lovey, Elizabeth, Nancy, and Sarah); no slaves. There is at least one unidentified male <16 in this census. If the 2nd unidentified male is Samuel and the census is correct, then Samuel would not have been born before 1775.4,5
Nancy lived in Stokes Co, North CarolinaG, in 1810. Charles Chitty males 1 <10 (1800-1810), 1 26-44 (1766-1784); females 2<10 (1800-1810), 1 26-44 (1766-1784); no slaves.
On 6 December 1811 in the will of Jeremiah M Casey in Richmond Co, NCG, daughter Nancy Casey was listed as an heir.5

Nancy Casey married Charles Chitty before 1812.

Biography

Jeremiah M Casey was also known as Jeremiah Casey. He was also known as Jeremiah Case. He was NC.
.

Johnston Co NC was formed on Jun 28, 1746 from Craven Co. Records for many of the very early years are not available. The earliest available tax record is 1784.

Jeremiah M Casey, son of Unknown Casey, was born about 1754. Unknown location.3,1,2
.

Dobbs Co NC was formed in 1758 from the eastern part of Johnston Co. In 1779 the western part of Dobbs Co became Wayne Co. Dobbs was dissolved in 1791 and Glasgow and Lenior Co's were formed. Most of the early records of Dobbs Co were destroyed when the Lenoir Co Court House was burned in 1878.

Jeremiah M Casey age ~16 married Nancy age ~15 about 1770. Best guess based on estimated birth years of Jeremiah's children.
. In Jeremiah's will, he specifically mentions James and Lemuel as being Nancy's sons. That would mean that Zilpha is Nancy's daughter. Jeremiah mentions that all of the children (Samuel, Sarah, Nancy, Betsy, Lovy, Mary, James, Lemuel, and Zilpha) are his children and goes on to say that when Nancy dies, she can leave her estate to her children as she see fit with the exception of James and Lemuel. Does that imply that some of Jeremiah's children may not be Nancy's children or is it just a wording thing?
.

Richmond Co NC was formed in 1779 from part of Anson Co.

.

In 1779 the western part of Dobbs Co became Wayne Co.

On 10 March 1779 Jeremiah M Casey was on the voting list for Dobbs Co, NCG+, on Dobbs Co. By this time, probably the following children had been born: Samuel, Sarah, Nancy, Elizabeth, Lovey, and Mary.

'In 1779 the outlook for the sucess of the American Revolution had grown very dim. This year and the next were the darkest years for the patriots. Kinston (now in Lenoir Co), the home town of Governor Richard Caswell, had become the defacto Captital of the new state. Here the State's Board of War usually met in secret sessions... The vote in the general election required the highest patriotic conviction. If the Revolutionary cause failed, each of these voters would be marked as among the seditionist...' From the Kinston Free Press on the 200th anniversary in 1979. List of voters was compiled by Charles Holloman of Raleigh. Jeremiah Casey was on this list of voters.
On 10 November 1779 in North CarolinaG, Jeremiah M Casey. received a land grant #196, adjoining Jernigan, Casey (could be Micajah),and Jonathan Layton.4
Neither Jeremiah M Casey or Micajah Casey are listed as serving in the Revolution in North CarolinaG.56,47,8,48
On 24 January 1788 in Dobbs Co, NCG+. Etheldred Ruffin of Dobbs Co NC deed to John Skitto of Edgecombe Co NC. 117 pds for 175 A in Wayne Co below the plantation where Jeremiah Case(y) formerly lived.4

Jeremiah M Casey was the Head of Household in the census in 1790 in Wayne Co, NCG. If the 2nd unidentified male is Samuel and the census is correct, then Samuel would not have been born before 1775.3,4
.

Dobbs was dissolved in 1791 and Glasgow and Lenior Co's were formed. Most of the early records of Dobbs Co were destroyed when the Lenoir Co Court House was burned in 1878.44
