Biography
Elisha O'Brien was farmer. He. Elisha was the only one of the six brothers who served in the CivilWar to see extensive duty. He served approximately three years, waswounded once, and returned to duty, and was part of the Confederateforces at the surrender at Appomattox. He returned home to LaurelHill (which is now part of Scotland Co) and lived out his years withhis children. He died in 1906 at the age of 76, and his grave is inLaurel Hill. (178) After his discharge, Dennis returned toRichmond Co, where he was a farmer. He had married Martha Jane Lovin,and they had nine children. He and a brother, John Jackson, helpedbuild Green Lake Methodist Church, which isstill active today. Hecared deeply for Green Lake Church, so much that he wrote a poem aboutthe church, and it was used at one time as one of the church hymns.It is said, also, that Dennis gave the church the Irish name for GreenLake, but it was difficult to pronounce and no one would try to usethe name, and it remained simply Green Lake.(178) CSA: Private in CoD, 33rd NC Regt.
