William Harvey Casey. William Harvey Casey was born Apr 19, 1900 on the Wesley Grounds atPoint Washington in Walton Co FL. His birth location is now a FloridaState Park, Eden. He was known as 'Harv'. Harv begin work withhis father at an early age. His father operated a tug boat on theIntracoastal Waterway, the first powered tug boat in the area. Helater was part of a team that mapped the Florida coast from Pensacolato Tampa in the 1920's. In the 19030s, he opened Bay Ice andStoragel, in Freeport FL. The business, known locally as 'Casey's IceHouse' is still in operation today. His family still sells ice tofishermen and ises it in its retail seafood business. He boughtshrimp boats during the 1940s. He was active in the Boy Scouts and inthe Freeport Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder for over50 years. He and his wife donated the land where the church stands.The bell tower is dedicated to him. The new Freeport baseball fieldwas dedicated to Harv Casey and his late son, Harvey Howell Casey,because of their donation of grading equipment and sod. 'Heserved to serve, not for recognition,' said his daughter, who said themost important thing she learned from him was that 'other people areimportant and that you should be concerned for them.' He was agreat believer in education and served on the Walton County SchoolBoard during the 1940s and 1950s, and for several years was chairmanof the board. Har died on Christmas Eve from heart failure at theage of 91. He was buried at Hatcher Cemetery in Freeport. He wassurvived by his wife of 67 years, Abbie Annie Howell Casey, twodaughters, Abbie Ann Schissler, and Mary Catherine Hinton, adaughter-in-law, Charlane Casey, a son-in-law, Dr. Andrew C.
