On 10 Oct 1775, he bought 130 acres in OnslowCo NC from his brother Joseph. It was witnessed by his brotherJoshua. On 12 Nov 1784, Benjamin Ballard sold to Drury Dunn for 50pounds 220 acres on the sw of New River being one half the tractgranted Ballard on 25 Oct 1782. Test: Thoms Jarman, James Dunn. On12 Nov 1784, Benjamin sold to Daniel Humphrey for 262 lbs 12 shillings130 acres on the nw branch of New River to line dividing Jos Ballardbeing part of 340 acres by deed from Samuel (Lemuel) Hatch to JosephBallard and patented by Stephen Williams on 21 May 1741. He also soldto Daniel for 50 pounds 220 acres on Richard Trigleth's line grantedto Benjamin Ballard on 25 Oct 1782. On 17 Feb 1785, Thomas Battle wasappointed as an attorney for Joshua and Benjamin Ballard to settletheir accounts. Biography
The Shaftesbury Precinct of Abemarle County NC was renamed as the Chowan Prc of Albemarle in 1685. It was named for the Chowan Native American tribe which lived in the northeastern part of the Colony. Joseph Ballard, Jr, son of Anne, was born before 1729 in Chowan Prec, NCG+. He was NC in 1729.
Joseph Ballard, Jr, married Elizabeth Williams, daughter of Unknown Williams, before 13 March 1730/31 in Chowan Prec, NCG+.
The Chowan Precinct of Abemarle County NC was renamed as Chowan Co NC in 1739.
In the tax list in 1755 in Tyrrell Co, NCG+, Joseph Ballard, Jr, was a resident.3
. In Martin/Tyrell Co, two records show Joseph Sr, Joseph Jr, Robert and John Ballard were parties to land transactions on 4 Jun 1757 and 2 Mar1759.
It appears that when Joseph Sr died, his son Joseph Jr became Joseph Sr since he had a son named Joseph. He also moved from Chowan Co to Tyrrell Co which became Martin Co in 1774.
In the 1750's, he, sons, Joseph III and John are well documented in the historical and land records. On 2 Mar 1 1759, Joseph Ballard(Sr/Jr) witnessed a land transaction of 150 acres where Andrews on the s side of Conoho Creek for 80 pounds VA. from Warren Andrews of Tyrrell Co to John Ballard (Ballard NEWS, Feb95 p121).
