. The family lived in a house just south of C. W.Rumph, Sr in Perote.
While living in the Brooks house in Perote, his son James had appendicitis. Dr. Hunter from Union Springs came down and operated on him. The operation was a success. Before that, operations were not performed often in Perote.
Tasso was involved in business with D. A. Hixon for some time in Perote. Tasso always gave his children a stern admonition - 'Get an education'. To help in this regard, he moved his family to Auburn.He commuted to Perote to manage the family farm. He considered Auburn to be too rough for girls, so he sent his daughters to Montevallo.
His oldest son, Jesse Locke Culver, was on the first Auburn football team in 1892 and was one of the founders of the Auburn Sigma Nu Fraternity Chapter. James, the second son, played on the 1894 football team and was an early member of Sigma Nu.
Wife Sarah Elvie ran a boarding house for the Sigma Nu chapter which was located above the famous Toomer's Drug Store. During this time,API had 350 students and the monthly room and board was about $12. He was a member of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute staff for about 12 years where he served as Superintendent of the Agricultural Experiment Station.
Later he continued his agricultural extension work with the Southern Railway and was located at Maplesville AL and Rome and Atlanta GA. He later was an industrial agent of the Mobile and Ohio railroad.
After retirement, Tasso and Sarah lived with their different children,including oldest daughter, Mrs. Herbert Ballard (Johnnie Mae) in Troy AL. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1923.
Tasso died on 17 Feb 1924 and is buried with his wife at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery AL. He was survived by four sons, James W of San Antonio, Jesse L of Atlanta, Walter E of Savannah, Asbury N of Montgomery, and four daughters, Mrs Herbert Ballard of Troy, Mrs B I Dahlbert of Knoxville, Mrs I M Weems of Birmingham, and Mrs J. D.Hartzog of Montgomery. Funeral service was conducted at the Ballard home on Walnut Street by Dr. C. C. Daniel of the Methodist church. He was the first member of his family to die.
