Biography

Mary A. Bishop was also known as Mary Casey. She, daughter of William Bishop, was born in 1828 in GeorgiaG.1,2,3

Mary A. Bishop married James Calvin Casey, Jr., son of James Casey, Sr., and Unknown Kirkland, on 24 September 1847 in Barbour Co, ALG+.4,5,6,789

Mary A. Bishop was a resident in the household of James Calvin Casey, Jr., in the state census in 1866 in Township 8 Range 25, Barbour Co, AlabamaG.102
Mary A. Bishop was the wife of James Calvin Casey, Jr., in the census in 1880 in Atkinsons, Barbour Co, AlabamaG.1
Mary A. Bishop died about 1892. She. My cousin on the Ballard side, Ballard Bishop, is related to Mary Bishop. According to his research of which he is not absolutely positive, Mary Bishop was the child of the second marriage of her father, name unknown. Her step-brother, William, is supposed to have come from the Edgefield District of South Carolina (neither proved or disproved). He went to Twiggs Co GA between 1816 and 1818. He had moved to Henry Co AL by 1822 and moved to Barbour Co about 1838. His father remarried ? and had a daughter Mary Bishop. She married James Calvin Casey Jr. in 1847.
*****ages in census records for whole family vary greatly from census to census*****
1850 Barbour Co AL: Mary 22 unknown can't read/write
1860 Barbour Co AL: Mary 32 GA
1870 Barbour Co AL: Mary A. 47 AL
1880 Barbour Co AL: Mary 48 FL NC NC

The Barbour Co AL will of William Bishop (no dates) names wife Nancy, son Dicerson H. Lewis Bishop, daughters Jane Bishop, Rebecca Bush, Nancy Bishop, and half sister Mary Bishop.
The Barbour Co AL will of Thomas J. Warren Sr. who died Feb 1849 mentions daughter Rebecca S. Warren who married William Bishop, wife Saran S. Warren, and minor children Susan M., Thomas, James E., and Joel/Joseph.

RESEARCH NOTE:
Grandson Leamon D Casey, son of James Alexander, stated in a letter to his nephew Pervis James Casey that his grandmother Mary Bush died when he was a small boy. Leamon was born in 1889. Therefore I have estimated her death as abt 1892.
However other records state that the wife of James Jr was Mary Bishop. Frederick Casey in his research also had the name of the wife ofJames Jr. as Mary Bush. There are several options to this confusion:

1. James Jr's first wife was Mary Bishop and his second wife (marriage date unknown) was Mary Bush.
2. Mary Bishop and Mary Bush are the same person and the names are confused for some reason.
3. The generations are mixed up and Mary Bush was the first wife of James Sr.

The Barbour Co AL census records for this family for 1870 and 1880 are certainly in conflict for this family with the 1880 ages disagreeing with the 1850, 1860, and 1870 ages for James and Mary.

Are these all the same person or not? I don't know.
