. John Barberie was one of the thousands of Protestants (Hugenots) who fled from France to escape the evils imposed upon them by Louis XIV. The names of Hugenots were removed from all official records as if they did not exist. Many were killed. Many of these immigrants settled at New Rochelle in the state of New York.

Some family trees in ancestry his ancestry back a few generations without any documentation. Therefore I have chosen not to copy this unverified information.

On 8 March 1697. the will of Colonel Gabriel Minveille mentions the two children of my niece Frances Brinkman now wife of Mr. John Barbarie -that is the children she bore to Daniel Lambert her first husband.1
